By Will Hunter, Founder of Rent with Thred • Updated August 2026 • Thred proprietary rental analysis
Outerwear is one of the clearest rental categories in menswear because jackets are expensive, seasonal and highly visible. That makes actual rental behavior a useful way to see which silhouettes men were willing to put into rotation rather than simply admire online.
This ranking is based on rental selections in Thred’s inventory-adjusted 150-product sample, not editorial taste. The list therefore answers a specific question: which included pieces did members actually choose most often?

What Stood Out in the Data
The highest-selection outerwear item in the sample was the REIS CORD SHIRT/JACKET IN CREAMWOOD from Ottway The Label with 77 selections. The Faherty Inlet Knit Blazer followed with 57, while the Sunnei Bomber Jacket produced 55 selections and the highest repeat-selection count among the leading jackets.
Repeat Demand Matters
A repeat selection is especially useful in rental because it means someone came back to a product after already knowing what it was like to wear. That is a stronger signal than a click and a different signal from a one-time purchase.
Volume Is Not the Same as Inventory Efficiency
A highly rented item can still have mediocre inventory efficiency if many units were sitting available. Conversely, a newer or scarce item can look extremely efficient on very little exposure. We therefore use raw selections for this list and treat the inventory-adjusted ranking as a separate question.

Methodology and What This Data Can—and Cannot—Tell Us
This analysis uses Rent with Thred’s inventory-adjusted product ranking covering October 2024 through July 2026. The source model matched 14,692 of 17,625 eligible rental selections to reconstructed inventory exposure, or 83.4% of eligible selections. Known subscription products and non-garment items were excluded.
The ranked dataset contains 150 eligible products with reliable non-negative reconstructed inventory history. Inventory exposure is measured in unit-months, meaning one unit held in inventory for one month. Because this is a ranked operational sample rather than 100% of every garment ever carried, totals in these articles should be read as evidence from the matched sample, not as full-catalog market share.
Frequently Asked Questions
How did you rank the men’s jackets, blazers & outerwear?
By total selections within the 150-product inventory-adjusted ranked sample. Ties are broken by unique customers.
Does this mean these are the best products?
No. It means they generated the most observed rental selections among eligible products in this sample. Personal fit, size availability and style still matter.
Why use rental data instead of sales?
Rental lets us observe repeated selection and use without requiring every trial to end in ownership. That creates a different view of demand than one-time checkout data.
The Bottom Line
The common thread is wearability. The pieces that rise in rental data are not always the loudest products. They are the ones enough people wanted to put into a real rotation.
